Absolutely hilarious, from beginning to end.
One thing I hate about female-driven comedy is the oft-sub par material that women have to work with. The punchline is always something tasteless or stale - like age, body image or gender roles. For some reason, the misogynistic question of whether or not women are funny is still a topic of hot debate. Kristen Wiig's "Bridesmaids" should have been enough to shut these guys up once and for all, but alas, it was not.

"The Heat" reunites "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, who, after 15 years in show business, was finally recognized as the star that she is, after the release of that film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Since then, McCarthy has been one busy gal - on her time off from filming her sitcom "Mike & Molly," this married mother of two has been filming movies left and right. Review of the Bluray/DVD version - Bonus features galore!
If you have not noticed by now, Amazon groups ALL reviews of ALL formats of a movie release together so I always recommend that customers note the format being reviewed and - better yet - sort the reviews by " most recent". That said, this a a review of the Bluray combo pack.

There are already 70 reviews of the "film" posted as I write this and nearly all concentrate on the film itself, so I will not spend a lot of space on that (you can read the others) except to say that I found it a fun film to watch, especially watching Sandra Bullock out of her element. I'll admit that I have not seen "The Bridesmaids" so this was my first opportunity to see Melissa McCarthy (and her mouth) in action. I guess I find the profanity a bit forced (and there for "shock value") but there were some funny lines.

Okay, now to give you info on the BD/DVD. First off, the package includes BOTH the Theatrical (R rated) version and the "Unrated" version. The R runs an hour and 57 minutes...
Funniest comedy in years! Absolutely a Must See
Sandra Bullock plays a brilliant, but arrogant FBI agent, and Melissa McCarthy plays a very rough, loner detective. They're thrown together on a case and have to adjust to working with each other.

This was the funniest movie I've seen in many years. There were so many big laughs that I'll have to see this again just to hear the lines I missed, because the audience was laughing so hard.

Some movie trailers look funny, and when you see the movie you're disappointed because you've seen all the funny parts already. Not this one. The actual movie was far more fun than the trailer showed.

Here's what I liked about this movie:

- Melissa McCarthy was utterly hilarious, as was Sandra Bullock. They're fantastic comedic actresses. The rest of the cast was also fantastic.

- The two actresses had major buddy cop chemistry. They played off each other perfectly.

- The script was really well done. There were so many surprises, twists...

Theatrical version available on DVD overseas
Like many people here, I detest the recut DVD version of this film. Seeing the original theatrical version in 1992 was one of the key moviegoing experiences of my life. I don't buy DVDs to see a new spin on a movie I liked, I buy them to be able to rewatch that same movie. Alternate cuts are fine as a bonus feature, but once I saw how Michael Mann had butchered his mainstream masterpiece, giving no option of seeing how it was originally, I sold the DVD and bought a copy of the mercifully untouched widescreen VHS.

Recently, however, I discovered that while this American director's cut DVD is from Fox, Warner Bros holds the rights to Mohicans outside the USA, and they have released the original theatrical version on DVD around the globe. I have a regionless DVD player, which is easy to get in many stores for under fifty dollars, so I bought a copy of the British DVD at amazon.co.uk

Wow. It's as I remembered it, with the Clannad song, without the extra monologue...
Heavy cutting guts the drama and love story of the original.
I'm a fan of this movie, and my low rating has to do with displeasure at the director's cut version. The original version had its problems, but Mann went overboard in trying to correct those problems and messed up the movie.
I've read all of the other reviews here, and people have already touched on many of the major changes in the DVD version. I won't rehash the previous comments. I wrote this review because I don't think anybody yet has mentioned some very important changes made to the director's cut. Taken as a whole, this director's cut is a significantly different movie from the original, much like how Blade Runner got changed completely. Since I don't have a copy of the original version, I can only make comparisons from memory, so bear with me if I make some mistakes.

Big Lie for the day -- this DVD is an "Expanded Edition"
This DVD is a huge disappointment. With every other movie I have ever bought that was labeled a "Director's Cut" or an "Expanded Edition", the movie had things added to it and not taken out. This version of the movie cuts out much of the familiar and favorite dialogue from the movie released in the theater. Did you like the part where, hiding in the forest, Hawkeye & Cora have their conversation about her people being a breed apart and not making any sense? When Cora gets offended by this, Hawkeye gives her such a look and says "I would make an exception in your case, Miss" and she sarcastically says "Thank you so much!" All this is ripped out of this version. When Major Hayward and Hawkeye have their confrontation in Col. Munro's office about whether the Colonial militia should be released from service to defend their families, gone is the part where Hawkeye looks at the Major and says "I think one day you and I are going to have a serious disagreement". There were no advertisements, no trailers, and the film was eventually released on just 130 screens in a limited amount of American cities. The film is written by successful veterans, stars some solid talent, and the CGI effects and art direction were likely not inexpensive. Unlike most films that a distributor ignores, Idiocracy was well-received by critics and I will echo here that it is indeed a very good satire. If you hated this movie you either didn't get it or were one of the people that the opening narration talks about. This film is a scathing satire about the culture that is breeding things like Paris Hilton, Jerry Springer, and Girls Gone Wild and taking a look at where the United States could be if that culture continues to grow unchecked. The Result is a movie that while not as funny as Office Space, offers a humorous although somewhat frightening look at our society and pop culture. I think this movie is one of those films that will eventually become a cult favorite and generate an even larger following that Office Space has. If you are troubled by your little niece's obsession with being like Paris Hilton or are dismayed by what passes for entertainment these days then you need to see this movie.

Brilliant Satire (brought to you by Carl's Jr.)

As a high school teacher, I saw this movie and was convinced that Mike Judge had secretly studied my students. He is DEAD ON about where the up-and-coming generation is headed, and it's so funny it hurts. This film is way ahead of its time in its cultural commentary, which is why it still hasn't received the promotion or praise that it rightly deserves. Then again, that's the problem with satire as a genre--the message is lost on the people who need to hear it most.
If you appreciate Office Space or King of the Hill, you'll love what Judge is up to here. It's refreshing to know that someone in Hollywood is ballsy enough to blast corporate America for its hand in creating a culture that is too stuid to recognize its own bleak future. It's also a little sad to realize that if you "get" this movie, you're already part of a dying breed.

A little over priced, but...
Update 12-24-2013:

I just got the claw package for my younger brother's gift, so now I can review both the Adamantium Collection and the X-Men and the Wolverine Collection. To be honest, I had every intention to keep the claw for myself, but I guess I am getting too old, and it didn't help that the claw is not as extra ordinary as I would like it to be. I think this package is not worth the list price. It would be a nice product if the list price was around $80, because the quality of the claw and the stand is too cheap for the hefty list price. If you forget about the price, it will be a nice package, and the new printed labels for all the discs are nicer than previous releases. The claw is a little smaller than what I thought it would be; precisely, it is 15" tall and 6.5" wide. The discs contents are the same as the...
Well, it's a collection all right.
I was excited to see an X-Men package at my local retailer and picked it up, knowing I would enjoy all 6 movies. When I brought it home and opened it, I learned how cheap they were to toss this thing together. The first 3 movies clearly have "Disc 1" printed on the label, letting you know (if you're knowledgeable in collecting movies/games/etc.) that they simply took the discs from unsold packages (probably ones with expired digital copy/Ultraviolet codes) and threw them in this nice looking box. The other three movies (Origins, First Class, The Wolverine) didn't have any marking they came from another package, save for the Wolverine discs don't even share the same print as the first three movies (though they have "Disc 1" printed on them, they're uniform.) First class almost had the same print, but is still different enough to bother a collector. It also bothers me to see that you're apparently buying a collection, with the intent of apparently HAVING a collection,...

Wicked FUN!
What a ride! This was entertainment at it's best, a kind of James Bond meets Kill Bill meets Harry Potter. The premise is simple: Eggsy, the main younger character, and a talented yet troubled youth of sorts is invited to try out for the Kingsmen. The first part of the movie is primarily training, interaction with the inevitable entitled bullies, etc. Of course, there is a mentor, played by Colin Firth, who is absolutely amazing in this role - stiff upper lip and all, but who does let his emotional side come through occasionally in his interactions with young Eggsy as he learns and grows.

No spy movie is complete without a super villain intent on world domination, and Samuel L Jackson plays this to the hilt, along with being quite squeamish about blood and violence. His outfits alone are worth watching.

This entire movie feels like an homage to the spy movies of the past, with top notch acting, believable character interactions, and some incredible...

Yeah, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" -- based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons's comic book series -- could have been the biggest, most grotesque flop in years. Love It, Love It, Love IT!

One of the best action comedies of the last few years. Great cast just all having a bit of fun. Once you don't take it too seriously, you will have a ball. Being a Brit now living in the US, it made me miss London, but it also made me proud that we Brits can still kick *ss, but do it with a lot of class, and are always gentlemanly, even to our foes. I was a big fan of Colin Firth before this movie, and am now even a bigger fan.

Word of warning: This is not for the squeamish or for prudes. There is a lot of gore, and some sexual references (hence the "R" rating), but if you are not easily offended then you will love it just as I did.

What a ride! This was entertainment at it's best, a kind of James Bond meets Kill Bill meets Harry Potter. The premise is simple: Eggsy, the main younger character, and a talented yet troubled youth of sorts is invited to try out for the Kingsmen. The first part of the movie is primarily training, interaction with the inevitable entitled bullies, etc. Of course, there is a mentor, played by Colin Firth, who is absolutely amazing in this role - stiff upper lip and all, but who does let his emotional side come through occasionally in his interactions with young Eggsy as he learns and grows.

No spy movie is complete without a super villain intent on world domination, and Samuel L Jackson plays this to the hilt, along with being quite squeamish about blood and violence. His outfits alone are worth watching.

This entire movie feels like an homage to the spy movies of the past, with top notch acting, believable character interactions, and some incredible...

Love It, Love It, Love IT!

One of the best action comedies of the last few years. Great cast just all having a bit of fun. Once you don't take it too seriously, you will have a ball. Being a Brit now living in the US, it made me miss London, but it also made me proud that we Brits can still kick *ss, but do it with a lot of class, and are always gentlemanly, even to our foes. I was a big fan of Colin Firth before this movie, and am now even a bigger fan.

Word of warning: This is not for the squeamish or for prudes. There is a lot of gore, and some sexual references (hence the "R" rating), but if you are not easily offended then you will love it just as I did.

A Fuller, More Cohesive Film
The Rogue Cut for many will be the definitive version of Days of Future Past. It adds character, motivation, and cohesiveness to the story. Is any of it necessary? No, the Theatrical version (also included on this disc) tells the exact same story, just tighter. But this BluRay has more than enough substance to be worth the purchase.

In terms of the Rogue Cut itself, what we have is a film that - at 17 minutes longer - breathes just a little bit more. The direness of the future is expanded upon with additional dialogue, an emotional scene between Raven and Hank (who only had an occasional glance in the theatrical version) gives us more development into their characters, and a last-attempt rescue brings Rogue in to help focus Wolverine in the past when he most needs it. Bringing Rogue into the film was unnecessary, but the way the sequence is cut together - with Old Magneto breaking into the mansion to rescue Rogue while Young Magneto breaks into the pentagon - is beautifully...

The original release of this film was a fantastic one. It was my favorite release from all 5 of the X-Men films to date. If you were to count this edition as a separate, 6th film, it would easily take its place atop that list. I love the seamless integration of the added footage, and Rogue's scenes give us a much fairer and more appropriate send-off to the character. For a movie that was partly intended to be the final good-bye to the cast (and characters) of the original trilogy, the Rogue Cut gives us all what we deserved.

(Minor spoilers ahead) If you've read any of Singer's interviews about the deleted scenes, then you already know the general purpose she serves in the added scenes. When Wolverine hurts Kitty, the team rallies to go find Rogue, bring her back, then have her absorb Kitty's powers to take over on her behalf.

While this doesn't change the overall plot or progress from the theatrical release, it does give the viewer several "a ha!"...
A Cut above a simple Director's Cut re-release.

Rarely does a different "Cut" of a movie give you anything more than just added scenes, but the way the story was tied together so seamlessly with the Rogue storyline inserted as it was meant to be, it also gives you plenty of Easter Eggs regarding other characters and their future roles in upcoming X Men Apocalypse. I thoroughly enjoyed this and find it well worth every penny spent to buy it. I don't just consider it a Cut, but an entirely different movie in and of itself. Great addition to the True X Men fans and all who love this saga.
